Warriors vs. Whalers – Bethel hosts Barrow boys

The Bethel Warriors hosted the Barrow Whalers boys for a weekend basketball twinbill. The Whalers won both games.

At Friday’s game, Bethel was hot and outscored Barrow 17-7 in the first quarter. By halftime Barrow caught up, 27-26. During the first quarter of the second half both teams were almost even in terms of scoring with Bethel sinking 14 and Barrow 16. By the end of the third, Barrow led 43-40.

The Warriors were led by Greg Turner’s 11 points. Madden Cockroft sunk 9, and both Ellis Johnson and Ethan Wheeler scored 8. Brian Guest, Paul Dyment, and Aaron Mute also contributed.

The Whalers’ Ethan Goodwin made 30 from the field. His teammate Alex Fruean made 12, Sasita Unatoa had 10. Also making baskets were Dwight Unatoa and Uatahouse Tuifua.

The game ended with Barrow 62 and Bethel 50.

Seniors were celebrated and recognized during the Senior Night ceremony to appreciate them for their hard work.

On Saturday Night, the Warriors limited Ethan Goodwin to only 6 points that were all made in the fourth. By the end of the first quarter, Barrow was ahead 22-18. The end of the first half was the same story, Barrow 37-32. The Warriors outscored the Whalers in the third quarter 11-8. The score at the end of the third was Barrow 45, Bethel 43.

Scoring in double-digits for the Warriors were Madden Cockroft with 18, and Greg Turner and Ethan Wheeler both with 14. Also making buckets were Paul Dyment and Ellis Johnson.

For the Whalers, Fruean scored 22, his teammate Sasita Unutoa made 16. Also scoring were Goodwin, Dwight Unutoa, Jaziah Tivao, and Uatahouse Tuifua.

The final score for Saturday’s game was Barrow 62, Bethel 50.

The 3A regional tournament will be hosted by Barrow, March 7-9, 2024.
